Naturally, the fans ran with this.

• 1/18 ^Explanation It's a gay porn comic featuring Tavros, Eridan and Equius that was being spammed at 4chan's Homestuck General. It always started with a spoilered pic of the first page, and a spoilered text saying "1/18". Soon it started being parodied, including one version that had SBAHJ-style art.
• HOPE RIDES FOREVVER ALONE! ◊ ^Explanation The character Eridan uses double "v"s and "w"s as his typing quirk since his sign is Aquarius. The fandom commonly characterize him as being a desperate, dateless loser. And then he was revealed to be the "Prince of Hope". Mashing him with the line "Hope Rides Alone" from The Protomen swiftly followed.
• The best ship is FRIENDSHIP! ^Explanation An answer to Ship-to-Ship Combat.
• Kanaya's feet. Look at them go! ^Explanation 4chan /co/ meme originating from a gif where Kanaya moves her feet very fast. A later update was made as a homage to that meme.
• honk. HONK. ^Explanation Ax-Crazy Sober!Gamzee's Madness Mantra, which quickly became a spectacular instance of Hell Is That Noise both in-universe and out.
• MARCH MADNESS ^Explanation Back in December of '10, a group of fans got together and began designing a Homestuck calender. When the topic of a crossdressing Eridan was breached, the artist designing the picture for March decided the idea was too good to pass up, so they decided to work it into their image and came up with this as a result.
  • The outfit is also memetic, as is the picture for being ugly to many.
    • "March Eridan" is now canon, appearing in the "Ministrife" update.

  • ...holy SHIT. ^Explanation Almost two years into the comic's run a fan who had only recently started the series caused a massive How Did We Miss This One? moment for many other fans by asking in a forum if anyone else had noticed Dave Strider's hair was in the shape of a stylized bird. ◊
• Shenanigans on the fora have led to two involving photoshopping Erdian: "upside-down-torso Eridan" ◊ or "UDT Eridan" ◊ (from this ◊), and ERIDAN AMPORA, LIMBO MASTER ◊ (from this ◊). The logical conclusion. ◊ ^Explanation They're shops of his death scene.
• Another memetic mutation that eventually worked its way into the AlterniaBound album was Trollcops. It started as a thread on the forums and was your standard AU thread. The music team then answered with making the AU's radio theme, the aptly named Trollcops. It especially shows in the Radio Play version when the narrator describes the long-time officer (Terezi) and the rookie (Sollux).

• Troll terminology including Jegus and Gog (which they picked up from Dave), candlelight hate date, bone bulge, nook and seedflap.

  • This even extends to cosplay photoshoots, in which the various Terezis stand with their backs to the cameras, wave to the sky, or just look off in the wrong direction.
• Pants ◊kat ◊ ^Explanation An Off-Model moment caused by an unusual art choice made Karkat look as though his entire body consists of a pair of really long pants. Pantskat is the most common name for the entity, but "Karkat Pantas" is also used on occasion. The image in question can be found here.
• The catchphrase "Kids & Fun" and the many variations of it
  • Tsunamis and Secretaries ^Explanation After Eridan killed Feferi and Kanaya, a huge shitstorm started on 4chan's Homestuck General. Eridan's fans were celebrating his victory and unsuccessfully trying to justify his actions. One of Eridan's fans decided to make an analogy with a tsunami, saying Eridan was doing that to avoid said tsunami.
  • Gods & Fun ^Explanation All the original human kids reach the God Tiers.
• The animes, like Disukuwarudo by Pratchett-san. ^Explanation These two related memes emerged from some of Hussie's snarky Formspring responses concerning, well, anime; Hussie doesn't care about the animes, and so gave Discworld as a snarky response. It spent most of its time as a Formspring/MSPA forum injoke, and didn't get a nod in Homestuck itself for a long time, until Jade alchemised the Dead Shuffle dress and it's remarked that in it she looks like she's "straight from the animes".
  • Homestuck: The Anime. Complete with screencaps, episode summaries, VA discussion and Sub vs. Dub flame wars. ^Explanation On July 1st, 2012, Hussie was forced to take an unexpected hiatus for ComicCon and dealing with his neglected chores, while also working on the next Flash update. During this time, the fandom had so little to do that they began to create high quality 'animestuck' fanart. The results were so convincing that some people began asking where they could find it, leading more people to create more Anime-style art based on scenes from the comic, as well as creating lists of VAs, and adding subtitles to certain images.
• "AnD ThEn mAyBe mAkE OuT a LiTtLe ;o)" ^Explanation This came from a particularly hilarious line by Gamzee where he casually (and unexpectedly) asks Tavros to make out.
• "i am not a homosexual." ^Explanation Right after Karkat confesses his hatecrush on John, John replies with this line. It can be found absolutely everywhere.
• This image of cosplayers ◊, with a security guard giving them a funny look in the background, is meme gold.
• Daddy Droog is best Droog! ^Explanation After seeing Droog watch the Curb-Stomp Battle between Aradia and Vriska and how he praised her afterwards a lot of AU fanfic/fanart portrayed Diamonds Droog as Aradia's adoptive father, frequently with other members of the Midnight Crew or the Felt adopting other trolls (usually based on exile/troll pairings).
• AND THEN THEY BOTH PORKED! ^Explanation The punchline from a comic shipping Eridan and Nepeta together, itself based on a Questionable Content Webcomic meme, has seen more than its fair share of usage.
• "Is she holding the gun right? Y/N" ^Explanation Two characters, Jade and Eridan, use guns in-canon, leading to a lot of fanart of them with guns. Since they're both expert marksmen, it's somewhat jarring to notice how rarely they're drawn holding their gun correctly, even in otherwise-good pictures, or in canon.
• The Sufferer can break those cuffs.
• Aradia's horns are a meme themselves, if only because Andrew seems to not give the slightest of fucks about having them look consistent between panels. In one panel with a heavy focus on Arasia ^note She was only "named" (The Handmaid) a bunch of updates later, and didn't get an actual name (Damara Megido) until act 6, he actually FORGOT her horns entirely. ◊ If fanart manages to keep Aradia's horns internally consistent, people will joke that Aradia is off-model in how on-model she is.
• SHOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSHHH ^Explanation A string of updates near the end of Act 5 have Karkat calming Gamzee down from his subjugglating madness by repeatedly "pap"-ing his face and shushing him.

• Hussieruya ^Explanation Shipping Hussie with Hidekaz Himaruya is a fairly common thing, it may have originally been created as a tongue-in-cheek to poke fun at the inexplicable hatred between the Hetalia fandom and the Homestuck fandom at the time. (The two Fandoms have since made up.) It was popularized by artists Tannanana and Sclez. Hussie now knows about it, thanks to a fan who sent him a link to the Hussieruya blog via Twitter. This was his response. ◊
• 10/25, never forget. ^Explanation When Hussie posted the EOA 5 flash on Newgrounds on the 25th of October (10/25), so many fans flocked there to see it that Newgrounds crashed. Then, when he posted a link to download it on Megaupload, the same event occurred. A livestream that was set up to play the EOA for everyone who'd missed it also crashed within minutes. Even Tumblr ended up crashing due to the sheer amount of fans posting about the flash. 10/25 has since been dubbed "the day that Homestuck broke the Internet."
• Im Sorry I Thought It Was Obvious ^Explanation Originally said by Kanaya Maryam, it is used in response to an exclamation of Fridge Brilliance about something everyone else already understood.
• HUUUUUSSSSSSSSIEEEEEEEEEEE ^Explanation The standard response to discovering a new piece of hidden foreshadowing, Fridge Brilliance or other evidence connecting to an event or another is skyward screaming Andrew Hussie's name. Due to the nature of the plot this happens a lot.

  • HUBBA HUBBA ^Explanation His... thoughts about "women of a cerulean complexion".
  • As soon as his first Pesterlog conversation happened, fairly accurate comparisons to Nigel Thornberry ensued.
  • "Double pistols and a wink" is quickly becoming a favorite among fans.
• Prior to the appearance of Dirk Strider and Roxy Lalonde, fanartists jumped on the idea that Dirk is a ridiculous fanspeak-spewing anime lover (probably inspired by his pointy shades), and that Roxy is a Valley Girl (inspired by an offhand reference: "you and she are totally BFFSIES 4EVERZ, her words").
• There's currently a rebellion brewing on the forums against Betty Crocker. FIGHT THE BATTERWITCH. ^Explanation Betty Crocker is a villain in Homestuck
  • The revelation that she uses Subliminal Seduction has caused it to spread throughout the forum as rapidly flickering avatars. OBEY
• 13 YEAR BREAK ^Explanation On his now-defunct formspring account, Hussie responded to a question about a perceived slowdown in updates by pointing out that his overall rate hadn't changed—there were longer pauses between updates, but there were also more pages per update. Then he pointed out that at that time he had put out enough pages, quickly enough, that he could stop updating entirely for 13 years, and Homestuck would still have a higher lifetime page-per-day rate than any other webcomic currently in existence.
• Dirk Strider as a sink wearing sunglasses. ^Explanation The first pesterlog Dirk has is in fact Jake talking to his autoresponder- that is, his shades- which are shown resting on a sink.
• PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DEMONS FUCKING EACH OTHER ^Explanation The widely used pairing name for Gamzee/Tavros is 'pbj', due to their respective blood colors. This prompted a non-Homestuck fan on tumblr to complain that after searching the 'pbj' tag he found a bunch of 'peanut butter and jelly demons fucking each other' when all he wanted was a sandwich.
• "Brobot stalking Jake while unfitting music plays": After the update in which Brobot was first revealed, many fans posted the panels to tumblr alongside hilariously unsuitable audio. Music used included the Jaws theme, Every Breath You Take, Somebody's Watching Me, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Never Gonna Give You Up, and an original composition by soselfimportant, among others.
• Trickster Mode, named after the Easter Eggs in various flashes, is an art meme where the characters are redesigned in bizarre ways, ie candy-themed and constantly cheerful. It can get very disturbing.
• "The Vast What": In reference to Jane's alleged death. The abrupt nature of the update has caused fans everywhere to respond with merely one word; "What." The amount of fans responding to the update on Tumblr led to the phenomenon being known as the Vast What, in reference to the Vast Glub/Croak/Honk/Expletive.
• And now with this update, we have eyebrows sweeping the forums.
  • Roxy mentioned "eyebrow raising funnybiz" earlier in the comic which prompted a tumblr user to make fanart of her looking at Dad's butt.
• The line Jack Noir just bees himself instead has given rise to fanart of Jack as a bee.
  • Which isn't completely unprecedented.
• "Do the [Element]y Thing!": Starting from this panel, fans have referred to something drastic done by the players, usually involving their powers, as "Doing the (Element)y Thing."
• When the God Cat was introduced, fans began drawing it as Kyubey.
  • More Magica (not to mention Durarara!!) fun was had when Dirk decapitated himself.
• "I'm glasses." ^Explanation Dirk's Auto-Responder is an artificial intelligence contained in his shades.
• Photoshopping Jane's eyes on everything.
• "HELLO DANTE": When it emerged that Dante Basco (whose character Rufio has had minor involvement in the story) has started reading Homestuck, Hussie slightly modified the header of the MSPA website to issue an... ominous greeting, then posted a screencap of it on Twitter and Tumblr. Some other Homestuck establishments, like the Reddit board, have since done the same.
• HONL ^Explanation When roleplaying on anonymous chat services such as Omegle or Trollmegle (a Homestuck version of Omegle), someone mispells their introduction and exits the conversation in an embarrassed manner as a result.
• There's a Youtube meme where people try to take the like/dislike numbers and use math to get 8. ^Explanation A number associated with Vriska Serket, also the sum of the digits of the Arc Number 413.

• FASTEST FANARTISTS IN THE WEST ^Explanation Originating on the Skaia Imageboard due to the speed of fanart relating to an update appearing online.
• When the panel revealing UU's identity came out, Hussie created a fake version ◊ in an attempt to deter spoilers. The fanbase promptly responded with their own versions of said panel.
• YOU CAN'T ESCAPE THE MILES ^Explanation uu's mantra concerning Bec Noir's Red Miles finally invading the B2 timeline. He even lampshades it by saying that it's now a thing. Image manipulators made things more terrifying by adding the Red Miles to photos of real life locations.

• Jokes about Hussie killing off characters, as well as predictions as to who will die in the upcoming updates, stemming from how many characters die on a regular basis. ^Explanation Answer - a lot.
• Day 23. ^Explanation And other numbers between 20 and 30, depending on what number day it was. Used during the extensive pause in August 2012 as a reply to oddball Homestuck-related posts on tumblr to show the fandom's slow descent into madness.
  • These are sometimes followed by comments such as "Day 23: Even the other fandoms are begging homestuck to update." "Day 23: Even the forum admin have begin begging." and "Day 23: Other fandoms are starting to doubt Homestuck's existence."
  • Similar versions have existed for the beginning of the Megapause (April to June 2013) and the Gigapause (from October 2013 to October 2014).
    • In particular, Uncomfortablestuck got popular during the Gigapause. ^Explanation Suggestions for Alternate Universe stories where almost everything is the same save for certain details. Also, usually a term for where someone very minorly edits a sprite, where the edited part only reveals itself with closer examination.
• WHOOPI ^Explanation Since Latula was introduced in the Act 6 Intermission 3 update, many people have made comparisons between her appearance and that of Whoopi Goldberg. On 4chan, you can barely get away with saying her name without this cry.

• Check y9ur privilege. ^Explanation Kankri, being a Take That! to tumblr, used this phrase a few times in his endless "sermon." tumblr, being tumblr, ran wild with this and turned Kankri into the patron troll of privilege-checking, as exemplified in this post.

• KURLOZ! ^Explanation A face replace of Carlos from The Magic School Bus, subtitled "KURLOZ", after a bad joke or pun on a thread.
• NYEH! ^Explanation An exclamation that Eridan never said in the comic, which was said in one of OctoPimp's videos. Was made (sorta) Canon in part 2 of A6I3's flash game, when said by Cronus.
• X with Equius ^Explanation Started with someone making a Sims 3 family with Equius and posting it on tumblr which led to people sticking him into other things.
• Vriska pointing at her treasure maps being used as an exploitable images is pretty common.
• caw caw motherfuckers ^Explanation A quote from Davesprite. Made additionally hilarious by its adoption and abuse by the Avengers fandom (some of whom claim they created it, to much humor).
• Mituna's dandelion hair. ^Explanation Mituna shows up helmetless in the Ministrife, revealing he has an absurd mess of fluffy hair not unlike the head of a dandelion and so thick it covers his eyes completely. The tumblr HS fandom was overjoyed.
• Nepeta is dead. ^Explanation Her death has become a bit of Black Comedy in the fandom.
• FeFETAsprite/Ironcheese ^Explanation The introduction of Fefetasprite's name provoked a Hurricane of Puns from the fandom, usually involving just Feta cheese, though with the occasional observation that the combination of the elemental symbol for iron (Fe) and "Feta" makes "Ironcheese."
• Putting Karkat's face on things. ^Explanation Someone on tumblr commented that if you put Karkat's face on anything, it becomes automatically funny.
• Fandomstuck (Also called Fandombound) ^Explanation It's common knowledge that the Homestuck and Hetalia fandoms get along well these days.This spawned art of Anthropomorphic Personifications of the two fandoms in the style of Homestuck, influenced by the Hetalia fan's natural love for personifying things. Then art for other fandoms began to appear, and...well you get the idea.
• Placing chatlogs in this format has become popular, often as a way of expressing just how weird this webcomic actually is. Have an example:
  • Page 1: A boy stands in his bedroom
  • 4657 pages later: A post-apocalypse self of that boy's ectosister's grandfather kisses the decapitated head of their best friend's brother's post-apocalypse self on the lips in front of an erupting volcano.
• Mere seconds after appearing, Jake's God Tier outfit became the ultimate rage in Tumblr. Particularly a rather... ''frontal'' panel regarding its selection of leggings. Or lack thereof.
• Also from Tumblr: John didn't show up with Jade because he was stuck in the line at Starbucks. ^Explanation Originates from another Tumblr meme, "X shows up to Y fifteen minutes late with Starbucks."
  • Now referenced in comic by a cup of Starbucks next to a sleeping John, fifteen pages after A6I5 began.
• I got up at 5am and made all these goddamn pancakes. ^Explanation A comic from Tumblr involving Baby Dave waking up Dirk when he's late for school, then giving him breakfast, which Dirk refuses to eat.
• Photoshopping John's disembodied arm everywhere. ^Explanation Events in-canon resulted in John's arm appearing out of portals literally all over Homestuck.
• Homestuck fans in regular clothing hearing about the first update since the mega pause, and stripping the regular clothes off to reveal homestuck clothing underneath.
• If the comments on the "Squiddles Opening" video are to be believed, pretending that the Squiddles is an actual old kid's show is popular as well (i.e. saying stuff like "I loved this show when I was little", "I watched every episode!" etc.)
• Ansrew, Andrew's evil counterpart. A typo in the forums and a troll (Not one from the Trollslum, the forum kind) resulted in the character becoming infamous in the forum community. Utterly insane, and both nightmarish and bizarrely funny.
  • Lesser know than Ansrew, there is also Abdrew. He is basically Hussie, but with a six pack and a mastery of the ways of love.
• Ding Dong the Witch is Dead ^Explanation The Wizard of Oz reference when Jade died
  • "THIS IS WHAT THE REFRANCE" ^Explanation The associated SBAHJ reference
• Murderstuck. ^Explanation A common phrase to describe the now infamous segment in Act 5 where seven out of the twelve Beta Trolls were murdered by each other.
• Homestuck is too weird for 4chan. ^Explanation During the idiotic Tumblr-4chan raids the 4channers planning the raid steered clear of threads relating to Homestuck because the comic and fandom were already so weird, sexualized, and gory. This made the fandom rather proud.
• The gigapause has been riddled with so many false alarms that it's become commonplace for fans to periodically spam tumblr with assumptions that an upd8 has occurred and refutations thereof. This may have something to do with the lack of a confirmed date for the Final Upd8's upload.
• Tavros dancing being set to music. For example: The Hamsterdance, The Safety Dance, U Can't Touch This...
• Well this has gone completely fucking pear-shaped, there's no other way out of it, you're going to have to decapitate me. ^Explanation As of [S] Collide, Dirk has been decapitated on two separate occasions, leading the fandom to jokingly speculate that he asks someone to cut his head off as a result of even the most minor inconveniences (burning toast, running out of toilet paper, literal spilt milk, etc.)
• Cronus Seatbelt Safety ^Explanation A stream of a new fan music album showed a piece of track art picturing Cronus driving a car, which many people in the stream's chat pointed out was not safe because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. People began to make jokes about this and even drew fan art relating to it.
• The ride never ends! ^Explanation When it ended in April 2016, the News Post promised an epilogue eventually, and a few other substantial updates have been released since then. Also a callback to the Arc Fatigue, which generated similar comments. The meme has only grown more popular with the release of both the Epilogues and Homestuck 2.
  • You cannot get off Mr. Hussie's Wild Ride ^Explanation A variant of the above, mashed up with the prior "Mr. Bones' Wild Ride" meme.
• This image of Vriska ◊ is often inserted into posts that have nothing to do with her in order to poke fun at the fact that she abruptly appears in the comic (and often with a major role to boot) when she shouldn't.
  • In a similar vein, there's this ◊ picture of Vriska sitting on random things.

• Meat or Candy? ^{Explanation (Epilogue Spoilers!)} At the end of the first three chapters of the Homestuck epilogues, John is given a choice between eating meat or candy at picnic. This actually carries quite a lot of literary weight, as the meat acts as a symbolic representation of heavy plot elements (hard to stomach, but ultimately nesscesary and filling), and the candy symbolizing lighthearted fluff (Quite sweet, but not substantial at all — initially at least).
• Spoiler-kun ^{Explanation (Epilogue Spoilers!)} A humorous way of addressing a specific character in the Epilogue, whose existence can't be avoided in discussions due to the sheer weight and presence they have in the Epilogue's story, especially in the Meat Route, and their identity itself being one of the biggest spoilers in Homestuck's history due to the shocking nature of it's reveal. So "Spoiler-kun" was devised as a convenient, yet funny way of mentioning the character without spoiling their identity.
• On tumblr, making a reference to Homestuck, no matter how subtle, will always result in the Homestuck Police showing up and calling you out on it.
  • A followup meme is calling out the Homestuck Police themselves, since how did they know it was a reference?
• June Egbert. ^Explanation The fandom-accepted name for a trans male-to-female John, a popular theory due to certain pieces of subtext within Homestuck that can be construed as a possible facet for John's character. Which received a surge of popularity in August 2019 after Hussie showed his approval for the concept.
  • Toblerone. ^Explanation Originally more of a MSPA-Forum meme, spawned from Hussie's Toblerone Cave ◊ picture. However, it has firmly become a Homestuck meme as well, due to the above situation. For Hussie's 40th birthday, he announced that he hid an entire box of signed toblerones at that very same cave, and it was up to the fans to find it. A user, specifically one of the users that codified the original "June Egbert" theory, found said box. After jokingly congratulated by another user on becoming "the new author of Homestuck", she jokingly replied that her first order of business is to make June Egbert real. Laughs and jokes were had until Andrew Hussie actually replied to that with his rarely used Twitter account with the above mentioned Approval of God, saying quote "You were the first to find my treasure, and so it will be done." Whether he was being serious, or just publicly expressing his approval of the theory in his signature Trolling Creator style is debatable; But Toblerone's memetic use exploded across the fandom as a result of the situation, with June Egbert art typically featuring them.
• The nature of humanity is just that every so often someone accidentally invents homestuck again. ^Explanation A quote attributed to Twitter user @milkdrinker5000 concerning an post they found that out of context sounds like a direct reference to Homestuck or its spinoffs. Eventually the joke encompassed anything, not just Twitter posts, that are sucpiciously Homestuck-esque without people realizing it.
• 720 ^Explanation A reference to "Bowman's Credit Score", a video in which Michael Guy Bowman goes on a 10 minute-long bizarre spiel on his credit score, which happens to be 720, but is between his buttocks (parodying this commercial). It's not uncommon to see jokes referencing this number, and some fans even jokingly treat it with the same importance as Arc Numbers such as 413 and 612.
• Vriska (Vriska). ^Explanation An infamous post ◊ added to a confession blog claimed that Eridan's character arc was actually a metaphor for Barack Obama rejecting leftist policy in favor of cozying up with conservatives. It also attempted to associate characters in the arc with political movements and demographics (Gamzee represents the middle class, Feferi represents social programs, Jade represents Reagan), but when it got to what Vriska was supposed to represent, it claimed she represented Vriska. The result became a very common Fan Nickname for Vriska, as well as a way to simply add Vriska into random discussions.
• Comic of trans ur gender ^Explanation As a Long Runner with a major LGBT Fanbase, Homestuck has a lot of fans who came out as trans during its run, many of whom can trace a direct line from reading the comic to questioning their gender. But it really came to a head in April 2021, when an announcement from What Pumpkin referred to Andrew Hussie with they/them pronouns, implying that even the author themself isn't immune to this effect.
• Rorb Lalorb ^Explanation Similar to Pantskat, this refers to an Off-Model image of Rose with her head drawn as a white orb with a cartoonish smiley face ◊.
